Designer Spotlight: Orbix Glass Works

It has been a few weeks since we’ve had a designer in the store and we are so excited to welcome the art of Orbix Hot Glass Works to Oxford Floral this Friday for our Football Fridays Trunk Show series!

Artist Cal Breed has had an interesting history leading up to the creation of his exquisite line of blown glass pieces. Born to an artist and an engineer, Cal embodied an innate sense of the expressive and the critical. Originally a marine biology major at Auburn University, Cal soon could not ignore the need to be expressive with his hands that had been haunting him for years. In an effort to curb this desire, he began studying art in glass, first working in stained glass, then mastering the art of glassblowing.

After years of study, Cal opened his glassblowing studio on top of Lookout Mountain in Alabama. He chose the name Orbix Hot Glass because of the orbiting technique of the glassblower’s pipe in creating the intended design of a piece. In much of the same meaning, Cal’s work exists because of the orbiting intersection of so many influential things in his life: his parents rich and opposite artistic influences in his life, world-class artists who taught skills to make his dream real, and the inspiration he gains from his three children.

His studio has grown to embody a team of glassblowers that work diligently in making unique pieces that pay attention to form, color, and balance. Each piece is unique and hand-crafted, and embodies the technique and skill that is essential in creating art from the ancient technique of glassblowing.

Orbix Hot glass has been featured in many notary publications such as Oprah Magazine, InStyle, Southern Lady, Cooking Light, and Southern Living. Cal and his hand-made glass-blown pieces will be at Oxford Floral this Friday preceding the Auburn game from 1 to 5 p.m. Make sure to stop in to view this incredible line of work and take a piece home for yourself. With Christmas around the corner, Orbix Hot Glass also offers many holiday-themed options for entertaining, and any one of these unique pieces would make the perfect Christmas gift! For more information on Orbix Hot Glass, visit there website and view Cal’s portfolio here.

Across the World for The Gypsy Collection

We’ve had quite a few events these past few weeks, and we’re winding down for a quick break soon, but not before we offer you the exciting Gypsy Collection in our store all day Friday from 1o am to 5 pm before the Kentucky game!  This exotic collection of jewelry from around the globe offers so many eclectic and fabulous styles, many of which are one-of-a-kind pieces picked up by owner and travel extraordinaire, Jeannette Simon, while traveling all around the world in pursuit of this beauty and art.

“It is our passion for travel and our propensity for collecting treasured tokens from each stop along that inspired the Gypsy Global Collections. It’s only natural for us to share the sights, flavors and unique encounters that come our way as the Gypsy Caravan continues along in search of more beautiful pieces.”

Jeannette and Roger, from the Gypsy Global Boutique website

Jeannette and Roger, her husband and travel companion, journey all over the world hand-picking designs and pieces to include in the Gypsy Collection. Jeannette, a thirteen year old cancer survivor, finds more reason now than ever before to take on travels in order to bring back the culture-rich pieces that define this collection and make it into fashion magazines and red carpets alike. Defining themselves as “world citizens”, Jeannette and Roger look for pieces that are handmade, instilling time-honored and often ancient traditions of artistry.

Owning a piece of the Gypsy Collection means holding a piece of the world and a part of Jeannette and Roger’s travels in your hand. These exquisite pieces embody old world tradition in a new world style and are a statement piece whenever worn. The Gypsy Collection has been featured in Lucky Magazine, Fashion Journal, Collective Magazine, and on The View. Pieces of the collection have also been worn by numerous celebrities on the red carpet, such as Macy Gray, Anya Monzikova, Natasha Alam,  Bai Ling, and Ashley Benson.

We are so very beyond excited to have Jeannette in the store Friday that we’re having an after hours party for her in Oxford Floral on Thursday evening from 6 to 7:30 pm! Please come and join us in welcoming Jeannette as she offers an exclusive sneak peak for you to see and purchase for yourself her exclusive treasures. We have a wide variety and great number of her pieces for you to choose from, and we know that you’ll walk away with a piece of the Gypsy Collection that is distinctly yours and individual.

These tanks would also make the perfect addition to a “Good Luck with Rush Week” delivery from Oxford Floral, complete with an arrangement of flowers and goodies from our store delivered straight to the dorm.

Here is an up close view of the front:

And an up close view of the small design on the back, underneath the neckline:

Fun and Functionality

As we previously established, the talented Three E Designs will be in our store this Friday with his fabulous and funky ceramics for you to see. We’ve been preparing by setting out all we have in stock, and I got a little sidetracked this morning snapping shots of all the different pieces I love and what I could use them for.

These pieces could utterly transform a kitchen. Placed here and there, they would definitely add a little spice to a functional space.

Cream and Sugar Tray and Canisters: fun additions to a kitchen counter

Pitcher and serving bowl: perfect for entertaining

Butter dish: adds something sweet to the table

Cake stand: so stunning it may overshadow the actual cake

Three E Designs is also the perfect pick for the gift-givers out there. My favorites for a happy present:

Small canisters: perfect for jewelry

Crosses: would look fabulous in an eclectic assortment hanging on an accent wall.

Small vase: with fresh flowers, brightens any room or day. We can even make a fresh arrangement for you to leave with!

Three E Designs will look beautiful spaced throughout your home, whatever you decide to buy and wherever you decide to use it. These unique platters are sure to be a focal point in any room!

We hope these fun designs brighten your day like they do ours. Come see for yourself why we, and many others, are so smitten with Three E Designs at our trunk show tomorrow at Oxford Floral from 1 to 5 p.m.!

Designer Spotlight: Three E Designs

We have another designer up our sleeve here at Oxford Floral. This time, it is Olive Branch resident Erich Edward Emmenegger, artist of Three E Designs, that will be showcasing his line of ceramics this Friday before the Fresno State game.

Emmenegger, originally from North Alabama, has been creating pottery since the mid-eighties. Over the years, his creations have been pictured in national and international publications, as well as received numerous national art awards. His work is featured in speciality boutiques and galleries around the country. Emmenegger currently resides in Olive Branch, Mississippi and takes inspiration from the lush beauty of the south.

Three E Designs is one of the most unique lines we have ever laid eyes on, and so rich in creativity you won’t be able to get your hands on enough. Fun, funky, and modern, these ceramics are sure to be a focul point in any room. The artist often uses elaborate patterns and intricate ceramic flowers to adorn his pieces. Emmenegger offers everything from teapots, cake stands, and crosses to butter trays, fruit bowls and pitchers.

With so many designs to choose from,we are positive you’ll find something to fit your personality from Three E Designs. Three E Designs is available at Oxford Floral, and don’t dare forget that the artist will be in the store with his ceramics on Friday, September 24, preceding Saturday’s Ole Miss vs. Fresno State game, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Take this opportunity to come and meet the man behind such a unique line of art, and pick a piece up for yourself- we would love to see you here!

Intricate and Original: Courtney Rae Designs

This Friday’s trunk show is featuring some real talent, and we are absolutely giddy for the arrival of Courtney Rae Designs‘ beautiful hand-thrown pottery. Courtney Peters, designer of Courtney Rae Designs, creates handmade pottery pieces, as well as managing her home and décor boutique, Mosaic, located in Fondren Corner in Jackson, Miss. This designer and artist has been making pottery since the tender age of seven when she first took pottery lessons at Pickenpaugh Pottery in Madison, Miss. That’s the epitome of an early start!

Courtney Rae Designs feature a flair that the designer herself provides uniquely to each piece, making them truly original. Pieces range in function from food-safe serving pieces, such as platters and serving stands, to decorative pieces, such as ornaments, wedding cakes, and the Courtney Rae roses. Custom Courtney Rae pottery can be made upon request, and are an excellent gift for a hostess, loved one, or even corporate gift needs.

We are absolutely crazy about Courtney’s decorative roses. Can’t you see them beautifully placed throughout a home, table centerpiece, or party?

And we think this Mississippi piece truly shows that home is where the heart is, a perfect emblem of our state’s hospitality and the perfect gift for a Mississippi native or visitor to your home!

Be sure to stop by and meet Courtney Peters so you can not only see her beautiful work but meet the artist as well. Courtney will be in Oxford Floral with her pottery this Friday, September 17, from 1 to 5 p.m. It is the perfect opportunity to pick up one of these beautiful pieces for your tailgate at the Ole Miss vs. Vanderbilt game the following morning!

For Rare Birds Only: Pink Herron Designs

Know what it takes to be a rare bird? Mamie Herron, designer of Pink Herron Designs, certainly does. And we don’t just speak for ourselves when we say we are beyond anxious to get her here in the shop next Friday for our Fall Friday’s Trunk Show to find out just exactly what it takes. This designer features a unique jewelry line of handmade charms and accessories that have had people buzzing in markets from New York to Atlanta and everywhere in between. A rare bird herself, Mamie Herron has had an interesting background leading up to the creation of Pink Herron Designs.

For Mamie Herron, an entrepreneurial spirit runs in the family. Her earliest memories are being in her mother’s flower shop, drawing, painting, arranging flowers, and helping customers at an early age. This flower shop, which was originally opened by Mamie’s grandmother in 1943 when her husband went away to war, then passed down to her mother, was a place where Mamie could cultivate her creative spirit and try out many different forms of art.

“My mother is my biggest inspiration and teacher when it comes to unleashing my creativity,” Mamie said on her website, pinkherrondesign.com. “ And my dad has always encouraged me to stretch myself to try new things and keep evolving.”

And evolve she did. Over the years, Mamie has dabbled in every medium imaginable, from stained glass, painting and faux finishing to graphic design, jewelry making and stamping. When she finally discovered soldered art jewelry, Mamie knew she had found a form of art that embodied everything she loved.

Mamie’s charms are intricate and handmade, each encased in glass and covered with a frame and protective polish to help hold shine and quality. Some are funny, some are sweet, and some are even a little naughty. But to this jewelry designer, that’s the fun part: choosing something that suits your mood or makes a statement about your life.

Pink Herron jewelry is customizable, allowing wearers to piece together unique combinations of charms on bracelets and necklaces to portray their own personality. Charms can each be customizable as well, and Mamie will work with costumers to ensure they receive the look they imagine. Mamie designs each and every piece of Pink Herron jewelry around the mantra that “everyone is a rare bird, and that can make your own very charming design.

We can’t wait to have Mamie and her Pink Herron jewelry line in Oxford Floral next Friday, September 17 (before the Vanderbilt game) from 1 to 5, knowing she will feel right at home in our own flower shop as she did so many years ago. Stop by to meet Mamie, and to customize your own piece of Pink Herron jewelry to capture a piece that is uniquely you.

In the Press

We are really excited in the shop today because of some big news for Oxford Floral.

We were featured in Mississippi Magazine! Our own owner David Naron was the designer for the exquisite arrangements featured throughout the magazine spread of Mary and Sam Haskell’s Magnolia Hill home. As soon as we can get our hands on digital images of the spread, we’ll be sharing with you. But we couldn’t keep the exciting news to ourselves! Be sure to go get a copy of Mississippi Magazine and see for yourself the work of David Naron at Oxford Floral.

Tailgate Madness

A sea of red and blue tents. The Pride of the South in the background. Friends and families alike all around, feasting on good food and fun drinks while awaiting the walk to Vaught-Hemingway. Pull out your pom-poms and coolers, its time for Ole Miss Football.

Here in the South, the first SEC football game falls closely  behind Christmas for the title of favorite holiday.  We sure know we’ve been getting ready for the Grove for months, because no one tailgates like we do.

That being said, all the tailgate gear we have here at Oxford Floral is making us itch to be among those infamous Grove tents, chanting Hotty Toddy, and  cheering on our Rebs. Although the first game is just two days away, there is still plenty of time to pop in the store and check out what we have that might amp up your tailgating on Saturday. We have a little bit of everything that will take your tailgate to the next level and have friends saying Hotty Toddy as soon as they arrive.

Later on this month, we’ll be sharing some tips for creating the perfect tailgate and showing you some pictures of our beautiful custom-made Grove arrangements that will complete any tailgate table. But until then, come see for yourself all that we here at Oxford Floral have to offer for your Ole Miss tailgate today!

Celebs with Shalla Wista

As we mentioned earlier this week, Shalla Wista Jewelry will be visiting our first Fall Friday Trunk Show this weekend, and we could not be more excited- especially after finding these exciting images via Shalla Wista Studio‘s Facebook page here. Feast your eyes on Kate Hudson and Ginnifer Goodwin in Shalla Wista’s fabulous vintage-inspired designs on the set of Something Borrowed.

Laura Gaines, owner and designer of Shalla Wista Studios, met the producer of Something Borrowed while on a trip to Los Angeles this winter. Before she knew it, Laura was meeting with costume designer Gary Jones, who bought 90 pieces of Shalla Wista Jewelry for the movie. Kate Hudson and Ginnifer Goodwin wear Shalla Wista flawlessly throughout the movie, making the jewelry line a hot item in the Hollywood scene. Lucky for us, we’ll be having Laura in the store on Friday from 1 to 5 with the same line these Hollywood Golden Girls are sporting. We hope you’re as excited about seeing these fabulous pieces as we are!

(Thanks to Shalla Wista’s Facebook Page here and an article from B-Metro here for the excellent photos and information)
